THIRSK: POSCH - Meg Pickard will discuss how we go about explaining autism to the wider family and beyond. on 3rd May
Have you ever been told that your child doesn't look autistic, that they make eye contact so can't be autistic or that they are just shy or naughty? Meg Pickard is going to discuss how we go about explaining autism to the wider family and beyond.
Meg, POSCH parent carer and Autism Central Coordinator for Yorkshire, is back by popular demand, returning for a fourth time.
Date: Friday 03 May 2024
Time: 10am-12pm
Place: Community Works, 14a Market Place, Thirsk YO7 1LB (please note that this is in the Market Place near to Harriet’s Clothes shop and Lee’s Pork Butcher’s. It is situated up a small alleyway next to the butcher’s – please don’t let SatNav take you to the wrong place!)
Parking: You can park at the Market Place, and it is free for an hour, or £1.20 for 2 hours.
Accessibility: There is a ramp leading to the door of the building. The room used is on the ground floor.
Our groups are run by our friendly team of volunteers who are parents or carers themselves of children with additional needs. Your child doesn’t need to have a diagnosis and we welcome anyone who is a parent or carer to a special child.
There will be light refreshments available, and a chance for you to chat with like-minded people, make new friends, and for us to support and advise each other through our collective experiences.
Please feel free to bring a friend or family member with you and contact us in advance if you are feeling anxious at the thought of coming to a new place and meeting new people, or if you have any special requirements yourself.
