Wiltshire: Storm Darragh flood update

Please note the following info has been provided by Wiltshire Council but most links also apply to the Gloucestershire and Oxfordshire areas

Storm Darragh is due to bring strong winds and rain to the South West region in the coming days. There is currently a yellow warning of wind in place for later today (5 December) and further yellow warnings of both rain and wind in place, though this may change. As this follows Storm Bert and the recent heavy rain, there may be a risk of some localised flooding as the ground is already saturated.

Please keep an eye on the Government’s flood alerts and warnings webpage for the latest information. You can also sign up for flood warnings and find out about what to do when warnings/alerts are in place.

Take care on the roads and drive to the conditions. Watch out for surface water and do not attempt to drive through any floodwater.

Please report any weather-related issues such as fallen trees or flooding to us using MyWilts.

Wiltshire, Gloucestershire & Oxfordshire: Roadworks and how to set up alerts from 'one.network'

Please note the following info has been provided by Wiltshire Council but also applies to the Gloucestershire and Oxfordshire areas

one.network is a great way for you to find out more about any current or upcoming roadworks in your area. You can sign-up to receive automatic email alerts that will notify you of any roadworks, temporary issues on the network and upcoming work.

The Traffic and Network Management Team coordinates and manages all roadworks on the Wiltshire network, with more than 24,000 applications for work each year. To manage this huge volume of activities, the council publishes all planned works on one.network.

To help you to use one.network, please see the following guides:

Email alerts provide information about works commencing within the selected timeframe. Daily alerts will provide information for works commencing tomorrow, weekly alerts will provide information for works commencing in the following week and monthly alerts will provide information for works commencing in the following month.

Please note one.network do not manage permits on the A36, A303 or M4. These are published by National Highways and so we do not have any control over this information.

South Wales: E-Scooters & E-Bikes Information

A reminder from South Wales police ahead of Christmas:

Thinking of buying an e-scooter for someone this Christmas?
Unless the lucky recipient has private land on which to use it, please think again.

We are committed to keeping our streets as safe as possible for all and – while it is legal to purchase e-scooters – as it stands they can't be licensed and insured so cannot legally be ridden on public highways.

Our officers don’t want to be seizing your son or daughter’s favourite gift from Santa so please do your research and speak to retailers before handing over your hard-earned cash.

Gloucestershire: Free bus travel for Veterans seeking employment

The initiative has been introduced by Gloucestershire County Council in partnership with the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) and Jobcentre Plus.

The County Council has produced and funded the travel cards, while Jobcentre Plus establishments in the county will issue them.

The initiative was launched at the Veterans Café in Gloucester, which was set up earlier this year with the support of the county council. The café is based at the Soldiers of Gloucestershire Museum and provides a space for serving Armed Forces personnel, veterans and their families to gather, socialise and support each other.

The motion said that the Council wanted to take steps to make a positive difference to the lives of veterans in our County, in recognition of their service.

The travel card will be available to veterans over aged 16 who are claiming Universal Credit or receiving a DWP benefit in Gloucestershire. It will entitle them to free bus travel throughout Gloucestershire.

Each card can be used for 50 single free trips and even if a veteran gains employment before the trips on the card run out, they can continue to use it. If the veteran if still seeking employment after the card runs out, they will be issued with a new card.
