Scotland: Enquire pre recorded Q&A for parents about school placements for children with additional support needs

We know that around this time of year many of the families we come in contact with are considering their options for schooling next year.

If you are hoping to make a placing request for your child to attend a school other than your local authority or catchment school, you might find this pre-recorded Q&A useful.

Applications are invited for the full-time post of Chief Executive, Highland Reserve Forces’ and Cadets’ Association (HRFCA) based in Dundee. This Crown Service (Civil Service Grade 6/Grade B1 equivalent) post becomes vacant at a date between April and October 2025, to be agreed with the successful applicant.

HRFCA. HRFCA is one of 13 autonomous RFCAs, which are arms-length bodies of the Ministry of Defence (MOD) with Crown status, whose role is to provide specified support to the tri-service reserve forces and MOD-sponsored cadet forces across the northern two thirds of Scotland. With a workforce of seventy-five, tasks include:

Lothians: Female veterans, female partners & wives of veterans Christmas Drop-In Thurs 5th December

Please join us between 5 - 8.30pm on Thursday 5th December for a night of festive fun with likeminded women from the Veterans' Community in a safe and welcoming environment.

You can drop-in anytime. We will have lots of festive music, fizz, food, a quiz and a lucky dip. Christmas jumpers and festive attire is encouraged!

Kids are welcome if you don't have childcare. Transport can also be arranged if you can't get here yourselves. Please tell us know if you need transport by COP Monday 2nd December.

Leuchars: The welfare team will be showing the recently released film BUFFALO KIDS, Sunday 8th December

The welfare team will be showing the recently released film, BUFFALO KIDS in the Leuchars Community Centre on Sunday, 8th December, starting at 1700hrs.

The cost to watch this fabulous film is £1 per child and £2 per adult.

Scotland: THAT Guy Sexual Crime Prevention Campaign launched by Police Scotland

The latest campaign launches at a time when reports of sexual crime continue to increase.

Between 1 April 2024 and end of September 2024 (quarters 1 and 2, 2024 – 25), 1,400 rapes were reported to Police Scotland, an increase of 19.5 per cent on the same period in 2023-24. Most offences (850) had occurred within the last 12 months. The remainder occurred more than 12 months ago.

Nearly 7,600 sexual crimes were reported in total, an increase of 3.2 per cent on the same period in 2023-24. Of those, nearly one quarter were reports of non-recent offences (1,829).

Dundee: Highland Reserves Forces' and Cadets' Association (HRFCA) vacancy for Estates Manager

Applications are invited for the post of Estates Manager for the Highland Reserve Forces’ and Cadets’ Association (HRFCA) based in our Dundee Office, Seathwood 365, Dundee, DD2 1lX. Date of appointment will be dependent on the availability of the successful candidate but is expected to be by Feb 2025.

The Post is Permanent/full-time based on a 37 hour working week. This is a Crown Servant (Civil Servant Band C2 equivalent) and the salary is £35,290. The successful candidate will be eligible to join the Council of RFCA’s Pension Scheme which operates on a Career Average Revalued Earnings (CARE) basis and has a personal contribution for members of 5% of pensionable earnings. Annual leave, excluding Public Holidays, is 25 days per year, rising to 30 days after 5 years’ service; previous public sector employment may count towards qualifying years’ service. Applicants must have a clean driving licence and should live within reasonable commuting distance of the Dundee office. A significant amount of travel is involved therefore candidates must be prepared to travel and spend nights away from home, for which reasonable expenses will be reimbursed. An Association vehicle is provided.

Penicuik: Outdoor Christmas Market Saturday 7th December

Outdoor Christmas Market on Saturday 7th December 1pm-5pm. 

This will take place outside Scots Corner Community Centre.

This was a great event last year and we received lots of positive feedback so there was no way we were not doing it again.

On the day we will have:
๐ŸŽ„Market stalls selling a range of different products, ideal for Christmas shopping. We still have spaces for stalls if anyone would like one, there is no charge but you would need your own gazebo, table and battery powered lighting.

Leuchars: Non UK national Awareness briefing Wednesday 20th November, for all Service Personnel and NUKN Spouses/partners

HIVE's NUKN Lead will be holding 2 Non UK National awareness briefings in the Community Centre on Wednesday 20th November. 

The first at 13:30 and then an evening brief at 18:30. 

Briefings are open to all NUKN service personnel and NUKN spouses/civil partners.
