Hampshire: Hampshire County Council - Your Hampshire The Latest from your County Council

Have your say on the future of local government in Hampshire and the Solent area

The Government is consulting on plans to simplify local government in Hampshire and the Solent area, by replacing the current two-tier system with fewer, new single-tier unitary councils.

Included in Government’s consultation is our proposal, developed in partnership with East Hampshire District Council, to create four new unitary councils in our area (three on the Hampshire mainland and a stand-alone unitary council on the Isle of Wight), to replace the current mix of 15 county, district and unitary councils that serve Hampshire, Southampton, Portsmouth and the Isle of Wight.

Hampshire County Council’s proposal is one option presented for consideration in the consultation. Other councils in the area have put forward their ideas for local government reorganization too, in the form of five new unitary councils, which are also included in the consultation.

To find out more about all the proposals in the Government’s consultation, visit the Government's consultation web pages.

A hard copy of the Government’s consultation document and the proposals will also be available for view at each of the County Council’s 40 libraries from next week.

Wiltshire: School Streets Proposals survey - closes Sun 14 Dec

Wiltshire Council wants to make the streets around our schools safer and healthier for children. To make this happen, they are proposing to introduce the first school streets in Wiltshire.

Wiltshire Council wants to ensure our children can travel to school safely and actively. Reducing traffic volume and speed provides the opportunity for safer walking, wheeling and cycling to and from school, as well as lowering carbon emissions and improving air quality.

Your feedback will inform the Council's next steps and help them ensure that School Streets work for everyone.

Have your say by Midnight on Sunday 14 December 2025 - https://wiltshireschoolstreets.commonplace.is/

Chatham: The Historic Dockyard - Mission Christmas The Marvellous Elf Inventors on 29th and 30th Nov 2025

Have you ever wondered why The Historic Dockyard Chatham closes every Christmas? For over 400 years, Dockyard workers past and present have been keeping a heavily guarded festive secret.

All over the world, dockyards just like ours are on high alert during the festive season. Hidden deep within the Historic Dockyard is a Secret Sub-Station, concealed from plain sight. Here, a crew of ingenious elves is stationed, ready to jump into action should Father Christmas run into trouble with his sleigh, need help with his Santa-Nav, or locate a child staying away from home.

The elves are thrilled that humans will be passing through the Sub-Station, though some have been up to mischief.

The Secret Sub-Station elves have been working on marvellous new inventions inspired by the trades and history of the Dockyard. Among them are The Festive Fertiliser, The Perfect Present Wrapper and The Master Cracker – each designed to make Christmas run smoothly.

Lyneham: Santa comes to Lyneham - Thu 11 Dec

This year’s Rotary Santa visits are going to be different to recent years.

Instead of door knocking on houses in RWB and Lyneham, Santa will be visiting predefined “Santa Stops” where he and his elves are hoping to be greeted by a crowd of excited fans!

As usual, Santa's Elves will have buckets for collection for those wishing to donate and support charity fundraising. To aid this, buckets will display a QR code to scan and enable direct donations.

All funds collected are distributed to local charities/causes early in the New Year.
