Vale of Glamorgan: 2024/25 annual garden waste collection subscription

If you have signed up for a 2024/25 annual garden waste collection subscription, we will collect your garden waste on your scheduled collection day every two weeks from today until 29 November 2024.

You can check your collection date and sign up for email reminders on our website.

If you’d like us to collect garden waste from your home, you can sign up for a 2024/25 subscription.

Brecon: Repair Cafe, every last Saturday of the month at Brecon Volunteer Bureau

The Volunteers of the Repair Cafe are able to work on:
  • Household Items
  • Toys
  • Clothes and Sewing Repairs
  • Small Furniture
  • Electrical Items (subject to assessment). Electricals can also be PAT tested.
Brecon Repair Cafe is also a collection point for Tools for Self Reliance Cymru

Cakes and warm beverages are on offer!

Volunteers are always welcome to join the group and current Volunteers are happy to share their knowledge with anyone interested!

Wales: Free Bookstart packs for children


It’s never too early to start sharing books, stories and rhymes with your child. Through Bookstart, BookTrust Cymru supports families across Wales to read together regularly.

Every child in Wales can receive two special Bookstart packs before the age of three, which are given to families by their Health Visitor. Alternatively, Bookstart packs are available to collect from many libraries in Wales. Find your local library here.

St Athan: Foodshare Pantry Opens at St Athan Gathering Place


Foodshare Pantry Opens at St Athan Gathering Place

Led by Food Vale with funding from the National Lottery Community Fund a new food share pantry has been set up at St Athan Gathering Place.

The pantry aims to improve access to affordable, good food in the community while reducing food waste.

The pop-up store will be run by Glamorgan Voluntry Services (GVS) fortnightly and will be stocked with surplus foods from supermarkets, and freshly grown produce from local growing projects.

Wales: Voter ID Requirement in Wales

Voters in Wales need to show photo ID to vote at polling stations in some elections.

This applies to:

  • UK parliamentary elections, including general elections, by-elections and recall petitions.
  • Police and Crime Commissioner elections.
If you don't have accepted photo ID, you can apply for a free voter ID document, which is known as a Voter Authority Certificate. The deadline to apply for free voter ID for the elections on Thursday 2 May is 5pm on Wednesday 24 April.
