Catterick: SSAFA Volunteers needed!

SSAFA is looking for volunteers who are passionate about giving back to the Armed Forces community to join its new Serving Community Team at Catterick Garrison. Depending on your preferences and the role you choose, you may assist with fundraising, managing finances, or supporting marketing efforts.

Volunteers can give as much or as little time as they can – the roles are designed to be flexible, as we understand many of our volunteers also have work or family commitments. No experience is necessary for most positions, but a military connection or an understanding of the unique challenges that service personnel and their families face would be excellent.

Volunteering with the SCT at Catterick Garrison is a fantastic way to give back to those who have given so much, and your time can make a world of difference in the lives of our Armed

Forces service personnel and their families. To find out more about volunteering opportunities, please email sct.interest@ssafa.org.uk or Robert.law@sct.ssafa.org.uk

Surrey: childcare provision and funding - Surrey Additional Needs and Disabilities

Childcare providers have a legal duty to offer extra support to meet the needs of a child with a disability under the Equality Act 2010. This might include installing a ramp to allow wheelchair access to their premises, or training staff to use special equipment.

They are not allowed to treat a child less favorably because of their disability and must make reasonable adjustments to meet the needs of children with SEND. They cannot charge more for a disabled child to attend their setting.

They must also take into account the Special Educational Needs (SEN) Code of Practice, which requires them to meet the needs of children with special educational needs.

Most providers will have a nominated special educational needs coordinator (SENCO) on their staff, who will be able to discuss the provision available for you and your child.

They will also be able to apply to Surrey County Council to access additional support and funding to help pay for extra staff, training or resources that have been identified as necessary to allow your child to attend their setting.
