Stafford: Staffordshire smart alert - Distraction Burglaries

On 4th August between 2000hrs and 2030hrs, a male has been knocking on addresses in Old Road, Barlaston.

The male has said that he need to come in to check the pipes.

Male was described as 5'10" mousey coloured hair wearing casual clothes, possibly with a non local accent.

Remember to stay alert, and should you notice any suspicious activity, please reach out to the Staffordshire Police by dialing 101 for non-emergencies or 999 in case of an emergency.

Below are some tips to help you stay safe.

Don’t allow any stranger in your house unless you have arranged an appointment with one of your suppliers and expect someone to be there.

Call for help if you suspect the visitor.

Check their IDs and verify them with the company before letting somebody into your home.

Lock all the doors and windows.

Hide your valuables.

Often suspects work in pairs and whilst one is distracting the resident the other will search the property.

Ensure your back door is locked when answering your front door .

The Unknown Warrior at The Courtyard on Thu 17 October 24

John Nichol will be bringing his new show, The Unknown Warrior to The Courtyard on Thursday 17 October at 7.30pm.

There is a concessionary ticket price which is available to military personnel.

The story of The Unknown Warrior will be vividly portrayed with haunting visuals and an evocative soundscape, transporting audiences back to a time of intense public sorrow and reflection, capturing the fervour of generations past. But how did this plan come to fruition? Who was this ‘unknown’ man? How was he selected, and from where? What were the logistical challenges of repatriating a single body while preserving its anonymity? To shed light on this century-old story, John retraces the Unknown Warrior’s journey home through discussions with relatives of those involved, research from long-forgotten archives, and insights from modern experts. By speaking with those who have recently lost loved ones in more contemporary conflicts, he reflects on our ongoing need for a tangible place of rest to truly mourn the fallen. As Remembrance Sunday approaches, he examines how individuals and nations have commemorated the sacrifices of the dead throughout history.
