Richmondshire: Energy Improvement Scheme

Richmondshire Energy Improvement scheme

Richmondshire District Council has announced funding to keep homes warm and energy bills low through the Richmondshire Energy Improvement scheme.

The scheme aims to help households to deal with high energy bills amidst the increase of the Government’s Energy Price Guarantee which will take effect in April resulting in a 20% rise in energy bills for the majority of households.

Those who qualify will receive an energy efficiency plan to suit their needs and optimise the impact of the improvements on their home, with insulation installs available as well as heating upgrades.

Installs are fully funded in most cases through a combination of Energy Company Obligation funding and ring-fenced council capital.

To qualify for the scheme, homeowners must have a poor Energy Performance Certificate rating of D or below, and have an income no higher than £31,000 or be in receipt of means tested benefits.

The scheme is also open to private renters with their landlord’s permission, with insulation being available for properties in an EPC band of E or below.

Councillor Phillip Wicks said: “The Energy Improvement scheme is available in a period of increasing energy bills and enables the Council to support households likely to need help.

“With flexible funding routes available through the Energy Company Obligation and our ring-fenced budget, the scheme covers a wide range of households, helping as many people as possible to heat their homes at a reasonable cost.

“We would encourage anyone interested to get in touch as soon as possible - there is no cost or commitment associated with the application process.”

Richmondshire District Council is working with YES Energy Solutions, a Yorkshire-based Community Interest Company, which works with local authorities to deliver energy efficiency schemes.

YES Energy Solutions is checking residents qualify for the scheme and arranging installs through their accredited team of installers.
