Stafford: Staffordshire smart alert - Marston, Stafford - witness appeal following Livestock attack

We are appealing for information after a dog chased a flock of sheep in a field on Marston Lane, Marston, near Stafford, on Friday 22 February.

It happened between 9pm and 10pm.

As a result, four sheep were hurt and three pregnant ewes in the field have sadly passed away.

As part of our initial enquiries, we are keen to speak to the owner of a blue vehicle seen on the lane between these times. It was also in the area a few days before at a similar time.

If you have witnessed this vehicle in the local area, we would also like to hear from you.

If you have any information, please don’t hesitate to email 06583@staffordshire.police.uk , quoting reference number 472 of 22 February.

Should you encounter livestock on land you walk thorough please:

- Ensure your dog is on a lead at all times

- Keep them under close control when walking through fields of livestock, particularly sheep

Livestock worrying is a criminal offence and comes under the Dogs (Protection of Livestock) Act 1953.

‘Worrying’ is where a dog attacks or chases livestock causing injury or suffering.

This isn’t just a threat to a farmer or land owner’s livelihood, it’s also dangerous for the animals involved and could lead to more risk if the animals get onto the road.

Always keep your dog under control around other animals and if you see a dog on the loose worrying animals please report this to us.
