Edinburgh: Free school meals, milk and school clothing grants

Who can apply
Families on low income can apply for school grants to help with the cost of 
  • lunches
  • milk
  • school clothing.
Check if you can get help on the Scottish Government website.

You may be able to get other help with food, clothing and childcare costs. Read about the financial support available.

Automatic awards
If you 
  • get Housing Benefit or Council Tax Reduction
  • meet the conditions for school grants
you may get an automatic award in June each year without the need to apply.

In some cases, we’ll need you to confirm your payment details.

We notified all parents of the 2025/ 26 automatic awards in June 2025.

If you didn't get an automatic award, you can apply for school grants.
