Dorset: Road safety. Deer season, be aware when driving

Image: Dorsetcouncil

A reminder to be vigilant while driving as we are in the birthing season when numbers of deer on and near the road increase.

Highest risk times are between sunset and midnight, and the hours shortly before and after sunrise.

During peak danger periods, or on roads where hitting a deer is a possibility, drive with caution and be on the lookout for deer near the road.

Seen one? Look for another: More deer may well follow the one you have noticed.

For more advice, including the steps to take if you sadly hit a deer, click

Folkestone: Samuel Plimsoll Service on Saturday 1st June

In the 19th century, MP Samuel Plimsoll campaigned for load lines to be painted on the side of ships to prevent them being overloaded and sinking.

Load lines are painted on the side of ships to show how low it may safely rest in the water without the risk of sinking. Although usually associated with the British MP Samuel Plimsoll (1824–1898), who campaigned for more safety at sea, seafaring societies had marked the sides of their ships hundreds of years earlier.  Read more

London: Diversity matters - music for mind and motherhood - Wednesdays 1100-1230hrs

Singing can lift our moods and make us feel better, boost our confidence and reduce stress, give us space to express ourselves, and help us to connect with others and with ourselves.

For this group, we dive into the magic of singing, and how it can create a space for wellbeing, connection and expression, offering an alternative way in to exploring your journey through motherhood. We will learn songs, practice gentle grounding and sound making exercises that encourage noticing and presence, and invite creative play where you can contribute your ideas if you wish. And the best bit: you absolutely do not have to 'be a singer' to enjoy singing and take part!
