SFA Do You Have License to Occupy Insurance in Place?

Check your insurance – do you have License to Occupy insurance in place? Standard home liability insurance does not cover SFA.

As the Licensee for the SFA, you are required to have sufficient Licence to Occupy Insurance to cover the cost of repairs if the SFA is damaged by action attributable to you. This specialist insurance will cover up to £20,000.00 if you were found to be culpable and whilst there are only a handful of cases cases per year, it is likely you would not want to be confronted with a large bill.

Whilst there are hundreds of home (contents) and property (buildings) insurers, few offer ‘Licence to Occupy Insurance’. However, you should be able to find an approved provider via the BIBA or SIIAP members directories. Links for their websites are as follows:

You could alternatively check with your current kit and/or contents provider to see if they also offer Licence to Occupy.

Once you have made contact with an insurance provider you must ensure and confirm that they cover the terms and conditions of the DIO Licence to Occupy Insurance.

The MOD JSP 464, Volume 1, Part 1, Section I, Paragraph 0605 recommends Service families take out a specialist type of insurance that covers your liability up to £20,000. You can view the JSP 464 HERE
