Dear Resident,

As we welcome the lighter days and look ahead to Easter and early summer, here’s a round‑up of news, events and updates from across the Vale:

New Llwybr Cymru Trail – First Section Opens in Porthkerry

The first 80km section of the Llwybr Coedwig Cymru Trail, part of the National Forest for Wales, officially launched in Porthkerry Country Park earlier this month.

This new long‑distance route celebrates Welsh nature, woodland and local heritage. Find out more: Llwybr Coedwig Cymru Trail | GOV.WALES

If you're out and about across the Vale this Easter you might also notice we have upgraded the public toilet facilities at Porthkerry Country Park and Cosmeston Lakes Country Park recently with further upgrades underway in our four main town centres:
  • Llantwit Major - complete
  • Cowbridge - complete,
  • Barry - underway,
  • Penarth - coming soon

Easter in the Vale – Events, Trails & Family Fun

Recycling & Waste – Easter Update 

Good news — there are no changes to recycling and waste collections over the Easter bank holidays. 

A few seasonal reminders: 
  • Recycle cardboard from Easter egg boxes 
  • Scrunch test your foil — if it stays scrunched, it can be recycled 
Coming soon – Soft Plastic Recycling! From Monday 13 April, soft plastic recycling collections begin in Barry and the rural Vale. Residents will receive a roll of sacks and information leaflets over the coming weeks. 

Our Household Waste Recycling Centres will be soon be opening from 8am - 6pm as we enter the summer season.

Penarth Pier Pavilion Cinema 

Penarth Pier Pavilion – Now Open 7 Days a Week

 Learn Something New This Summer with Vale Courses 

Looking to develop a skill or try something new? Vale Courses, based at Old Hall in Cowbridge, offers a wide programme of adult learning opportunities across Art, Crafts, Languages, and Health & Wellbeing. 
  • Summer Term starts Monday 13 April 
  • Courses available in Cowbridge, Barry and Penarth 
  • Choose from 5week and 10week courses, plus oneday workshops 
  • Open to all Vale residents
