NAAFI Fund 2026: there’s a month left to submit your applications – closes 4th Sept

The NAAFI Fund portal is still open for applications.

Since their launch in 2020, they have supported 541 projects totalling £4,844,227.

• Two-month window: Applications opened on Wednesday 1st July and closes on Friday 4th September, meaning you have one more month to get your project ideas in.
• One-Stage Application: No complicated stages, just one straightforward application to complete.

Grantham: Whisby Nature Park

Whisby Nature Park is a beautiful landscape near Lincoln, full of wildlife, walks and trails. Once barren and lifeless, this amazing place now abounds with wildlife. The park was created by quarrying for sand and gravel, but nature has reclaimed the pits and bare sand, creating habitats for many species.

Dorset: School transport & pupil bus passes

Dorset County Council (DCC) school bus passes These cards will be sent direct to your home address.

DCC school bus passes will be for the life of attendance at your school or college, subject to transport entitlement and so will not need to be re-issued every year. These passes contain an electronic chip. School vehicles are fitted with electronic chip readers that will allow passes to be checked and details of the journeys recorded.

If a bus pass is lost during the academic year you must obtain a temporary pass from your school office in order to continue using school transport until a replacement pass can be issued.

From Military Service to a New Career in Construction: Reece’s Building Heroes Journey

For many Service Leavers and Veterans, the move into civilian employment can feel like a big step. Building Heroes exists to help make that transition feel more achievable, practical and supported.

One Building Heroes graduate, Reece Johnson, served in the Army for more than 15 years as an MT Sergeant before deciding to explore a new direction. Through the Building Heroes Construction Multi Skills programme, Reece was able to gain hands-on experience, build confidence and start to understand the opportunities available across the construction and built environment sector.

As well as the practical training, Reece valued being part of a cohort of people with shared experience. For many learners, this peer support is one of the most important parts of the Building Heroes journey, helping them feel understood, encouraged and ready to take their next step.

“The atmosphere was familiar and supportive. You’re learning new skills, but you’re doing it with people who completely understand where you’re coming from.”

Reece has since gone on to work with Velocity Roads, a Building Heroes employer partner, as a Road Repair Operative. More than two years later, he continues to build his civilian career in the sector.

“Velocity really values the skills that people with a service background bring. That really stands out.”

Stories like Reece’s show how funded training, employer engagement and the right support at the right time can help members of the Armed Forces community move forward with confidence.

Building Heroes supports Service Leavers within their final 18 months of service, Veterans, Reservists and immediate family members to explore new career pathways in construction and the built environment.
