Vale of Glamorgan: Seasonal waste and recycling updates

Vale of Glamorgan Council: Seasonal waste and recycling updates

Pumpkin recycling

Once the spooky fun is over, don’t let your pumpkins go to waste!

Pumpkins make a mighty meal - try pumpkin curry, risotto, or even brownies. Everything but the stalk is edible!

Love Food Hate Waste have you covered for delicious pumpkin recipes!

Alternatively, chop your pumpkin into pieces and pop it in your food waste caddy (this helps make space for all those monster pumpkins!). If it’s a smaller one, you can leave it on top.

All food waste we collect, including pumpkins, goes to Welsh Water’s treatment plant in Cardiff, where it’s turned into biofertiliser and electricity to help power local homes and communities.

Composter? Once you’ve scooped out the seeds, pumpkins are a great addition to your compost heap.

Leaf and windfall fruit collection service

If you have a paid garden waste subscription, you can put leaves and windfall fruit from your road in your garden waste bag.

If not, you can book a free collection for leaves and fruit that have fallen on public land:

Book a leaf and windfall fruit collection

The service runs until 30 November 2026.

Planning a larger street sweep? Email wwgeneralenquiries@valeofglamorgan.gov.uk to discuss collection arrangements.

Fallen leaves and fruit can also make great compost!
