Wiltshire: Council campaign aims to keep school zones safe for everyone
As the school year gets under way, Wiltshire Council is reminding parents, carers, and local residents to take extra care when driving and parking near schools. The safety of children during busy drop-off and pick-up times depends on all road users acting responsibly.
While many drivers do follow the rules, there are still too many instances of speeding and illegal parking near schools, putting lives at risk and causing unnecessary congestion.
The council is urging everyone to help keep school zones safe by:
- Parking only in designated areas to avoid blocking visibility and access
- Not stopping on yellow lines or zigzag lines
- Using drop-off zones where possible
- Following school traffic rules and signage at all times
- Driving slowly and cautiously, especially during peak school hours
