Changes to Entering the UK as a Dual British National
From 25 February 2026, dual British nationals must be able to demonstrate their right of abode when entering the UK. British citizens cannot apply for an Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) and must instead provide approved documentation confirming their right of abode.Dual British nationals must present one of the following documents when travelling to the UK:
• A valid British passport, or
• A valid passport of another nationality with a Certificate of Entitlement.
The same requirements apply to children with dual British nationality.
Consequences of Missing Documentation
Failure to provide the correct documents may result in:
• Delays during check in or boarding.
• Being stopped at the UK border.
• Refusal of entry into the UK.
