Bovington: Tank museum 'quiet morning' visit - Sat 19th Sep

Join us for a quiet morning aimed at anyone who would appreciate a calmer visit to The Tank Museum. From 09:30-11:00 all sounds, and interactives will be turned off to reduce sensory input.

This session is primarily for, but not limited to, families of children with autism; young people and adults with autism; children with social, emotional, or mental health needs; adults living with dementia and any other visitors with sensory needs or who may prefer a more relaxed experience.

At 1100 sounds will be switched back on, but visitors are welcome to remain in the Museum for as long as they like.

Sensory backpacks can be borrowed from main admissions free of charge. Backpacks include ear defenders, magnifying glass, book, squeezy toy, torch, periscope, and Commander Basil bear.

Future date for quiet morning -
Sat 5th Dec

St Annes: International Kite Festival 4th, 5th, 6th September 2026

The 2026 award winning St Anne’s Kite Festival will take place in September, this date being identified by suitable tides for everyone’s safety. Joined by kite teams from across the UK and beyond, the event is a unique partnership between Fylde Council and kite fliers SmileFactor10 with ongoing support from St Annes Town Council.
The skies above St Anne’s seafront will be awash with colour on Friday evening, Saturday and Sunday as fabulous display kites take to the air on the beach adjacent to the pier. There will be five flying arenas on the beach, including one outside of the dog control zone, so visitors with dogs can get close up to some of the kite action.

There is an illuminated kite flying evening on Friday 4th September. There will be a fairground on the beach and additional food and drink stalls on the Promenade, so if you’re looking for refreshments you are very much encouraged to visit the town centre too or bring your own picnic.

Weather permitting, the event promises a thrilling and thoroughly enjoyable trip out for young and old alike. Timings for kite flying for 2025 are as follows:
  • Friday 4th – 12 noon to 10pm featuring illuminated kite flying
  • Saturday 5th – 11am to 5pm (N.B. Fairground will operate into the evening)
  • Sunday 6th – 11am to 4pm
Plus, in 2026 an artisan market featuring local producers in the Promenade Gardens.

Please note the event is entirely weather dependent and the planned programme may be changed without notice, for safety reasons. The dates have been chosen as the planned tides support this.

Gov.uk: Childcare for Service children ‘Moving to England from overseas or within the UK’ section updated

The gov.uk Childcare for Service Children webpage can be found at: Childcare for Service children - GOV.UK

The section on moving to England from overseas or a devolved nation was amended on 6 Aug, and now reads:

Moving to England from overseas or within the UK

If you are returning from overseas or moving within the UK, please visit the Best Start in Life website to find out what is available in your area. The application process and deadlines may vary.

It’s not possible to apply for additional funded childcare online when you are outside England. If you are due to return to England from overseas or elsewhere in the UK after a term deadline, you can call the Childcare Service Helpline on 0300 123 4097 to apply for a free childcare code and request a manual application. The manual application must be completed before the term deadline.

Information on term deadlines and when to apply can be found in DIN - Early years funded childcare overseas. Search for the DIN on defnet or Defence Connect (accessible by MOD personnel only).

Parents can apply outside of the recommended dates, but they might not receive their code in time. Parents must have a valid code by the end of the month before a new term starts.

Overseas

In overseas locations, the Ministry of Defence (MOD) provides services (or access to services) that, so far as is reasonably practicable, conform in type, scope and standard to that required by legislation in England.
