Bovington: Tank museum christmas market and santa meet & greet - Sat 14th & Sun 15th Nov

Get festive at The Tank Museum with two fun-filled days of a local craft market, live entertainment, and see Santa arrive in a tank.

The event will see Santa swap his reindeer and sleigh for a tank, taking him into the Museum’s Kuwait arena where visitors can ask him questions.

Elliot Wills, Events Operations Manager, said: “The arrival of Santa on a tank may seem like an unusual idea; however, British tank regiments and their communities have had this tradition for around 100 years. It is important to us, as the regimental museum of the Royal Tank Regiment, to keep this Christmas tradition alive for the community.

“We’re also delighted to be once again partnering Dorset Team, a community of makers, artists, and small businesses selling high-quality crafts, art, toys and gifts.”

Alongside Christmas shopping, The Tank Museum’s restaurant will be serving festive food and drink.

Attendees can also listen to live music from the Bournemouth and District Concert Band, one of the largest concert bands in Dorset.

Annual Passes and memberships are valid for this event, and all tickets include free returns for a year. Pre-book your entry ticket online to save 20%! Tankmuseum.org/events/dorset-christmas

The Ripple Pond: New free resources to help Armed Forces families talk about injury and PTSD

The Ripple Pond wanted to share an exciting new set of free resources to help Armed Forces families talk with children about injury and PTSD.

When a parent or family member is living with injury or trauma linked to their military service, the impact can reach across the whole family. Children may notice changes in someone they love or in family life, but knowing how to explain what’s happening in a way they can understand can be difficult.

That’s why, through their Family Focus Project, The Ripple Pond has developed Understanding Injury: a collection of practical, age-appropriate resources designed to help families find ways to approach these conversations together.

Developed with input from families with lived experience and specialist professionals, the resources include:
  • Age-appropriate materials for Key Stage 1, 2 and 3
  • Conversation prompts and suggested wording to help parents find a starting point
  • Follow-up resources to support understanding
  • Accompanying videos (for KS2 / 3) designed to be used alongside the information packs
These aren’t instructions about what to say or how anyone should feel. They offer families a starting point, helping them find the language and confidence to approach conversations in ways that feel right for them.

The resources were developed with funding from the Armed Forces Covenant Fund Trust and were initially shared with The Ripple Pond’s Members and partners. They are now freely available to everyone, so families and professionals can access and share them whenever they may be helpful.

Remembrance Sunday Services in Fylde 2026

Residents throughout the borough are warmly invited to join commemorations on Sunday 8 November as communities come together to honour those who have defended our freedoms. These services will offer everyone the opportunity to pay their respects and reflect on the extraordinary sacrifices made by our armed forces, both past and present.

Services are always well attended and will take place as follows:

St Annes: Assemble at the Town Hall at 10:25am. The parade will proceed to the memorial in Ashton Gardens at 10:38am, led by the Mayor and Mayoress of Fylde. Please note that as Garden Street is currently closed, the procession will return by the reverse route forming up on the main path out of Ashton Gardens.

Kirkham: Assemble on Orders Lane at 1:30pm and move off at 1:45pm. The Remembrance service will commence at the Cenotaph at 2:00pm, followed by refreshments at the Community Centre at approximately 2:45pm. Please note that after the service the procession back to the Community Centre will be in the same order and will return up Church Street, Poulton Street and through the passageway near Kirkham Bierhaus. It will not return up Barnfield as in previous years.

Wesham: Assemble at the War Memorial at 10:20am. The procession will move off at 10:40am. Following the service at the War Memorial, the Mayor and guests will make their way to the Community Centre on Church Road for refreshments.

Armistice Day Arrangements

The commemorations continue on Wednesday 11 November with a two-minute silence marking Armistice Day. The Mayor and Mayoress of Fylde will attend at Ashton Gardens, the Deputy Mayor and Deputy Mayoress of Fylde at Lytham Cenotaph and Councillor Frank Andrews, Fylde’s Armed Forces Representative, along with the Mayor and Deputy Mayor of Kirkham at Kirkham Cenotaph, ensuring every community can mark this significant moment together.

Councillor Richard Redcliffe, Mayor of Fylde, said: “It’s a privilege to stand alongside our community as we honour those who gave so much for our freedom. These services offer a vital moment to reflect on the courage and sacrifice of our armed forces, and I’d encourage everyone across Fylde to take part, whether at a service or through the two-minute silence, to ensure they are never forgotten.”
